Section 3
Archery Range Specific Rules: - Appropriate eye protection MUST be worn when shooting on the Weslaco archery range. - Inspect all equipment for condition and damage before shooting. - Arrow Check: This includes, but is not limited to, checking arrows and bolts for cracks, loose vanes, bends, broken nocks, or any condition that may cause an arrow or bolt to fly erratically, or to rupture when released. - Bow Check: This includes, but is not limited to checking for frayed strings, loose pulleys, warped limbs, cracks or other damage that may result in breakage when at full draw. - Use Common Sense, If It Isn't Safe - Don't Do It; and Don't Let Anybody Else Do It. Speak up if you see anything unsafe. - Shoot only those arrows that have been matched to length and weight of the crossbow you are shooting. - Shoot only those bolts that have been matched to length and weight of the crossbow you are shooting. - Never dry fire a bow. The resistance of the arrow is needed to prevent damage to the bow limbs. - Never intentionally overdraw a bow. - Broad head arrows should be used on specific targets only. - NO incendiary arrows or targets are permitted. - Never carry broad head arrows with the razor tips unsheathed. - Use proper safety gear, including arm guards to prevent string burns and contusions to the forearm, finger tabs to save fingertips from abrasions, and bow slings to maintain control of the bow. - Be considerate of fellow archers; distracting behavior or horseplay is prohibited. - DO NOT nock arrows when persons are down range. - Nock Arrows ONLY when on the shooting line and with the bow pointed downrange. - DO NOT elevate or draw the bow pointing above the target butt. - No person shall go forward of the shooting line until the line is clear and safe. - Before shooting, be aware of your target and what is beyond BEFORE shooting. - Provided 3D styrofoam targets and/or block targets are the approved targets for the archery range. Check with Range Officer or Weslaco Board of Directors member for optional target approval. Rifle Range Specific Rules: - Appropriate eye and ear protection is required on all Weslaco firearm shooting ranges. No exceptions. - Before using the rifle range you MUST post BOTH red flags and the appropriate Rifle Range sign. - Keep your finger off the trigger, and outside the trigger guard, until you are ready to fire, or until the commence fire command is given by the range officer. - Tracer, explosive, or incendiary ammunition is strictly prohibited. - Explosive, or incendiary targets are strictly prohibited. - No full auto firearms are permitted on the rifle range. Please try to keep approximately 3 seconds between shots (see Tap/Tap below). No rapid fire that could be construed as fully automatic fire is permitted. - Tap / Tap - Tap tap, or double tap, is an approved training tool used by the CCW classes and law enforcement training. This is two 2 quick shots followed by a pronounced pause { 3 sec }. This form of practice on the range is permissible so long as the fired shots could not be construed as fully auto fire. Remember the neighbors. - Always, keep your firearm unloaded and in a safe condition, until ready to use. - When loading, ALWAYS keep your firearm pointed in a safe, downrange position. - Shooting a firearm from an unstable position, or “trick” shooting is prohibited. - Do NOT shoot the backstop framing. - ALWAYS shoot in the direction of the backstop. Never shoot at an acute angle or backwards. - ALWAYS obey ALL range commands IMMEDIATELY. - If parking is allowed on or near the rifle range, be considerate of the ground. If it is too wet during the spring or fall, only park in the parking lot. - Before shooting, be aware of your target and what is beyond. Always think safety. - Use common sense when it comes to caliber. Please no 50 BMG. Trap Field Specific Rules: - Appropriate eye and ear protection is required on all Weslaco firearm shooting ranges. No exceptions. - Before using either of the trap fields, you MUST post the red flag by the corner of the trap field and the appropriate Trap Field sign. - Tracer, explosive, or incendiary ammunition is strictly prohibited. - Explosive, or incendiary targets are strictly prohibited. - Shooting a firearm from an unstable position, or “trick” shooting is prohibited. - Do NOT shoot the trap house for any reason. - ALWAYS obey ALL range commands IMMEDIATELY. - Always, keep your firearm unloaded and in a safe condition, until ready to use. - If anyone is downrange/in the trap house, ALL firearms MUST be unloaded and made safe. - Anyone loading the trap house will put a safety cone on top of the trap house to show that they are downrange. - The “unload and change” command means to unload your firearm, make it safe, THEN change stations.

No exceptions. - Before using either of the Skeet or 5 Stand fields, you MUST post the red flag by the corner of the trap field and the appropriate Skeet / 5 Stand Field sign. - Tracer, explosive, or incendiary ammunition is strictly prohibited. - Explosive, or incendiary targets are strictly prohibited. - Keep your finger off the trigger, and outside the trigger guard, until you are ready to fire, or until the commence fire command is given by the range officer. - Shooting a firearm from an unstable position, or “trick” shooting is prohibited. - ALWAYS obey ALL range commands IMMEDIATELY. - Only load ONE shell at a time at Skeet station 8. - Always, keep your firearm unloaded and in a safe condition, until ready to use. - If anyone is downrange/in the trap house, ALL firearms MUST be unloaded and made safe. - While shooting 5 stand, only load your firearm after it has been placed over the “shelf” at your station. - The “unload and change” command means to unload your firearm, make it safe, THEN change stations.

No exceptions. - You must obey all commands from the trapper and/or scorekeeper immediately. - Tracer, explosive, or incendiary ammunition is strictly prohibited. - Explosive, or incendiary targets are strictly prohibited. - Shooting a firearm from an unstable position, or “trick” shooting is prohibited. - Keep your finger off the trigger, and outside the trigger guard, until you are ready to fire, or until the commence fire command is given by the range officer. - Always, keep your firearm unloaded and in a safe condition, until you are in a safe position and ready to shoot. - While walking between shooting positions, ALL firearms will be unloaded and made safe with actions open. Muzzles will be carried in a safe manner. - Keep aware of the other shooting stations and their participants at all times.

No exceptions. - Before using the hand trap, the red flag by trap field #1 must be displayed along with the “Trap” sign below. - It is permitted to use any unbroken clay targets found on Weslaco grounds in the manual hand traps. - Only clay targets can be launched from the manual hand traps. - Shooters using the manual hand traps must be absolutely certain that nobody is on the rifle range or dog training area BEFORE using the manual hand traps. - Because the manual hand trap can be moved around and rotated, it must only be aimed so that the clays go in the direction away from the driveway and clubhouse. - Shooters MUST stand behind a line through the manual hand trap. - Spectator MUST stand at least 5 feet BEHIND the manual hand trap. - The hand trap puller MUST stand behind the manual hand trap in a location to safely activate the trap - Using the manual hand trap alone is allowed, but not recommended. - The shooter, puller, and the spectators, MUST use proper ear protection. - The shooter and puller, MUST use proper eye protection. Shotgun Pattern Board Specific Rules: - Appropriate ear and eye protection must be worn by all shooters using the pattern board. - The shotgun pattern board is for shotgun use ONLY. - Use only lead shot on the pattern board, as steel may come back and “pepper” you causing injury. No Duck or Geese loads are to be used on the pattern board. - Shooters using the pattern board must stand at least 90 feet (for 16 yard trap patterning) away from the pattern board. There are bricks sunk in the ground, in a line, at the 90 foot mark directly in front of the pattern board. - Paper, cardboard or thin plastic “patterns” are only to be used on the shotgun pattern board. - Please clean up all “patterns”, tape, or shells that are used at the shotgun pattern board. - Be aware of what is behind the pattern board before shooting. - Do NOT use the shotgun pattern board if the trap fields, skeet fields, or rifle range are in use are in use. - Do NOT use the shotgun pattern board if there is a hunt going on the Weslaco grounds. Pheasant Program Specific Rules: - Appropriate ear and eye protection must be worn by all hunters. - All hunters must wear a blaze orange hat and vest - Anyone interested in hunting on Weslaco grounds must have successfully passed an approved Ohio Hunter Education Course, and have a copy of their course completion card recorded on a list kept with the Secretary. - Only hunters signed up, paid for and have attended the Weslaco safety orientation are permitted to hunt pheasants on Weslaco property - All hunters must display their pheasant badge on their orange hat while hunting pheasant - Pheasant badges will not be issued unless the hunter has successfully completed an Ohio Division of Wildlife Hunter Safety Course . - Youth hunters must be accompanied by an adult as described in division of wildlife regulations ... .It is the responsibility of the supervising adult to become familiar with the details of that section since they will be responsible for the actions of the youth hunter. - There will be no small game hunting on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. - Only those hunters scheduled to hunt will be permitted. - There will be no hunting of small game, or running or working of dogs during the pheasant program from oct. to dec. for more details contact the program director. - Please post your bag on the game log for each day hunted. (just a note: if your dog "catches" a bird it becomes part of your bag even though you didn't "shoot" it, and please make the extra effort to find crippled birds). - Practice safe gun handling and hunting guidelines at all times. No hunting or discharging of firearms in or around posted areas, clubhouse and parking lot. - - Please observe the courtesy zones around the perimeter of the property. Shooting should be directed to the interior of the property. - No "ground shooting" of game. - All hunters will be informed of all regulations pertaining to the Pheasant Program by the Chairman. This will include, times and length for releases and hunts, field use and their boundaries, no shooting zones, bag limits, bird care, club house housekeeping, and proper dog handling. - Hunting guests are limited to immediate family only, i.e, son, daughter, wife, or parents. Guest fee is $45 dollars. Only one guest per group. - All hunting guests must have completed the state hunter safety course and the Weslaco safety orientation. - No "observers" permitted. - Members must accompany their guest at all times. - All bird cleaning must be performed in the designated areas only and discarded in the designated manner. - No hunting beyond Weslaco property lines - No loaded firearms are permitted inside any and all buildings on Weslaco Sportsmen’s Club property. - No work hours for bird releases each group is responsible for releasing their birds and each hunter must assist during releases. - If a hunter arrives late for his hunt he must wait in the club house for one hour after the designated start time. He may then proceed to his designate and begin hunting. - Youths must be properly supervised by a parent or guardian at all times while hunting on Weslaco property. - Daily bag limits: 2 pheasants, 2 chukars, unless otherwise noted. - Hunters must remain in their designated zone for a minimum of one hour before they are free to move on to another area. Please be courteous when entering another area. If the originally assigned group is still hunting their designated zone DO NOT ENTER that area . - Hunters walking on to the property from adjoining subdivisions must sign in before beginning their hunt. - Hunters with dogs must have their dogs on a lead on their way to their designated release areas and in the parking lots as a courtesy to other hunters. Aggressive dogs will not be tolerated. - No substitute Hunters. Period.! - Please make an extra effort to straighten and sweep the clubhouse before you leave. - These rules will apply in addition to the State of Ohio Hunting Regulations. |
